This is the 4th Annual Chuckanut Cruise brought to you by BPCDubs. The charity we are raising donations for is Childhaven.*

If you haven’t had the chance to make it out to this drive yet, it is absolutely fantastic. Forests and trees line one side of the road, while the sound is on the other side. It’s a very scenic drive with amazing photo opportunities throughout the twisting roads. You don’t want to miss the driving experience this road has to offer!

History of the cruise:
In 2009, the first year of this cruise we had over 55 cars in attendance and collected almost 400 pounds of food for Northwest Harvest.
In 2010, we had around 60 cars in attendance and collected over 250 pounds of food for Northwest Harvest.
Last year again, attracted over 60 cars, and all proceeds went to Paws.

We will be meeting at the Park and Ride at 10am. We will be at the Ash Way park and ride for around an hour to give people the time to show up, park, mingle and have the chance to donate to Childhaven.

Childhaven is located in Seattle and their mission is, to prevent and stop the cycle of abuse and neglect through scientifically-supported programs that protect and treat children aged one month through five years, and their families.

Once we arrive at Larrabee Park we will have the opportunity to take pictures, hang out, and enjoy the awesome PNW European car enthusiast community! There is a beach just a short walk away, so grab a frisbee to throw around. At this point in the day, people can hang out as long as they want and depart when they wish. You can either take Chuckanut Road back to the Seattle area, or hop on I5 for a quicker drive home.

The route that we currently have planned is 80 miles each way from Lynnwood to Bellingham.
Now that all of the fun informational stuff has been addressed, the serious stuff needs to be discussed.

**SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY!!!**

This is without a doubt our #1 concern.
We all will be driving as a group, and as a group, we all represent the European car enthusiast community. No one is to do any burnouts, illegal lane changes, or any passing on the shoulder. Everyone needs to keep their speed under control and make sure that they are not following cars in front of them too closely, whether they are with our group or not. SAFETY is paramount; do not drive like an idiot! Please do not make us have to call the police on any vehicles that are not driving in a safe manner.

Please make sure that you are allowing other vehicles that are not part of our cruise to merge onto the highway. You don’t need to worry about being separated from the rest of the group. It is extremely unsafe to do this and we are not in a race to get to our destination, it’s called a cruise for a reason. Drive respectfully, safely, and courteously to everyone around you.

The festivities didn’t quite stop there, as we made our way towards a private party shortly afterward where we spent a few hours enjoying some Canadian hospitality and mingling with the the rest of the regional enthusiasts along with several other American friends that made the drive up for the weekend. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Ben Zeno for his hospitality! It was a great time.

Sunday morning got started quite early with a short drive up to the Langley Convention Centre, where the show was being held. After a quick set up and dusting of the cars, we were all set up in our respective classes.

The quality of the cars on display was certainly impressive throughout the weekend but it was certainly here where the mix or aircooled and watercooled cars was at its best. We were also thrilled to see how air & water mix without issue up in the Great White North – something which usually doesn’t happen on U.S. soil. We certainly wish the U.S. VW and Audi community was as tight knit as the Canadian scene is. We can definitely learn a lot of how the Canadians do it – they definitely have it pat down.

Documentation of the weekend’s festivities is a bit lacking on our end, only bothering to take a few shots of the show which can be seen below. We chose to spend our time mingling with friends, making new ones and reconnecting with old ones – which after all, is what these events are all about.

Congratulations to Bird, Pavel, Jim and Jesse for placing in their respective classes! I know I speak for everyone in BPC when I say we can hardly wait for next year. In the meantime, here’s a handful of photos to hold you over.

BPC sponsored WaterWerks again for the 3rd year in a row and we were provided with an designated area in which to set up our club tent and put some of our cars on display. Some of our members participated in the judged car show obtaining mostly gold trophies. Congratulations to Bird, Jesse, Jim and Pavel!

Tailored Seattle is taking place Saturday August 6th 2011 in Tacoma’s Cheney Stadium. More information can be found here.

We are also happy to report that the event was carried out without incident and everyone of our participants drove in an exemplary manner throughout the drive. We departed our meeting location at around 10:45 a.m. and made our way north via I-5. We stopped to regroup for a minute at a north end gas station and then made our way through Chuckanut directly to the Web Locker for some much needed refreshments and lunch.

Our donation tally included the following:

• $548.00 in Cash
• 13 cans of cat food
• 1 can of dog food
• 3 bags of cat kibble
• 1 bag of dog kibble
• 1 box of Milkbones
• 3 Nyla Bones
• 1 Tug-A-Jug treat dispenser toy
• 4 bags of cat toys
• 3 leashes

Our friends at PAWS are very pleased with everyone’s cooperation and donations and thank everyone for your support!

BPC’s Curt Roy does.

For the past 8 months Curt has been a vital crewmember of the WIKISPEED team, building the SGT01 100 mpg commuter car concept. WIKISPEED, a collaborative effort of over 50 people from 6 countries, was a recent finalist in the Progressive Insurance Automotive XPrize Competition; they finished in 10th place out of 136 entrants.

What does Mr. Roy do for this worldwide project? Quite a lot, as it turns out. In addition to helping WIKISPEED set up the CNC machine, Curt has run brake lines and fabricated new iterations of the engine and interior modules. He has also laid up the full carbon fiber body and has acted as a test driver. Curt didn’t stop there, as his normal routine at WIKISPEED also consisted of everything in-between.

Recently WIKISPEED took the SGT01 to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. Curt made the trip as well so he could be on-hand to help prepare the WIKISPEED car and stage it for the show. Acting as an ambassador for WIKISPEED, he also fielded questions from the show goers about the WIKISPEED project. The show was a success, and the WIKISPEED SGT01 even received international press coverage!

WIKISPEED is growing and staffed entirely by volunteers. The plans for the SGT01 would receive a huge boost from additional financing; WIKISPEED is also accepting pre-orders on the vehicle. Read about WIKISPEED in the April 2011 issue of Automobile Magazine, or visit their website.

When: Saturday, December 18th at 3:30PM

Why: To enjoy a cruise with fellow European car enthusiasts and to support Northwest Harvest.

This is the 2nd Annual Pt. Defiance Cruise brought to you by BPCDubs and sponsoring Northwest Harvest. This leisurely cruise takes you across Lake Washington on the I-90 bridge then South along Highway 509 & Marine View Drive through coastal Des Moines and Federal Way, finally ending up at the Pt. Defiance Zoo to check out Zoolights.

Where to meet: Eastgate Park N’ Ride (Top Level of Parking Garage) 140th Ave. SE, Bellevue, WA

We will be meeting on the top level of the Eastgate Park N’ Ride Parking Garage. This meeting spot should offer adequate parking for all participants as well as an easy route to get onto the highway.

When: We will be meeting at 3PM at the Park N’ Ride and will be leaving promptly at 3:30PM. This will give people some time to hang out, chit chat, ogle other people’s cars, and hit the road.

Donations: We will be taking donations for Northwest Harvest as a part of this cruise, every vehicle in attendance should bring a minimum of 4 cans of food to donate to Northwest Harvest. Northwest Harvest is a local non-profit organization that collects food and provides it for free to local food banks and meal programs throughout the state.

But that is exactly the feat that they pulled during the weekend of March 7th, earlier this year, making the event a huge success and one of the most heavily attended drives in the Pacific Northwest. Working closely with the City of Port Townsend, Achtun!ng was able to secure permissions to utilize their local stadium as parking grounds, which provided not only a more cohesive environment but also a single location where to see most of the attendee’s vehicles together, providing everyone with a place to hang out and get a good idea of the scale of the event.

Most of us were in attendance this time around and couldn’t have asked for a better experience, cold weather aside. We’re already looking forward to next year, which is already right around the corner!
